Before the school term started again, Gwen and I decided to discover the historic town of Combourg. The medieval castle dominates the town from Its rocky outcrop, and it’s there that we started our visit. The castle which was the residence of the writer Chateaubriand is full of stories and legends. The medieval structure overlooks the old town that hugs the banks of the lake. The outstretch of water is partly bordered by marshland that offers a completely different type of context, and sometimes reveals a view towards the castle.
